What is a DrupalCamp? What is Drupal?

Drupal is a free open-source content management system (CMS) written in the PHP programming language. DrupalCamps are community sharing + training events for Drupal enthusiasts, especially for newbies.

DrupalCamp LA has been held annually since 2007, and on the UC Irvine campus since 2009.

When is it? Where is it?

DrupalCamp LA will be held Saturday August 29 and Sunday August 30, 2015 at the University of California, Irvine campus. The first session will start at 9:00am and the last session should be over by 6:00pm (schedule subject to change).

How Much Does it Cost?

Free! really. Thanks to our amazing sponsors, we're pretty sure our costs are covered. You're on your own for parking ($10/day), and lunch.

How Big is the Conference?

Pretty big. In past years, we've had up to 450 people! We have eight rooms that can be utilized, including one with 250 seats, two rooms for BoFs, and a coder/sprint lounge.

Why do I need to create a profile on this site?

Everything about you related to DrupalCamp LA is here. We'll pull your full name for your conference badge from here, along with some other information to make meeting like-minded people easier. You also need it to pick sessions.

Why do I need to Pick Sessions?

TL;DR: It's integral to the camp. We need you to do it. Pick up to eight sessions for each day you're attending.

Long Answer: Picture this. You're at DrupalCamp LA, there are some post-its on a wall placed there by potential presenters. There are also some different size rooms and we have limited time. But instead of a few dozen people there are hundreds. The goal is to match community interest with proposed topics and still keep a small event feel. How? Use Drupal.

You pick what sessions you are going to attend. Then we can generate a master schedule to best match space and time restrictions. No more people hanging out of doorways or huge rooms with only three people.

Lastly, a day or three before camp, you'll need to update your schedule. Some sessions may be dropped, others may have conflicting times. Go fix it. Based on updated results we may move sessions to different rooms. It also allows us to make changes on the fly during the camp. And the best part, everyone can easily stay up-to-date. Just glance at your laptop to view your personalized schedule.

Can I get a printed schedule?

Nope. The schedule is subject to change and frequently does change throughout the camp. A printed schedule would not be helpful. Instead refer to the schedule on-line on your mobile device, or view the schedule projected in the lobby.

Can I register more than one person at once?

Unfortunately, no. Each person's profile holds their conference registration information.

Will I receive any registration materials in the mail?

No, everything is handled online. Show up with an ID that matches your registration.

We'll send you a few emails leading up to the conference, but that's it. Then when you sign in at DrupalCamp LA all you need to do is provide your registration info.

Is DrupalCamp good for newbies?

Yes! We plan to have a track for beginners.

The official DrupalCon is a chance to learn more about where modules are moving in the future, and to meet the people behind the modules you use. In contrast, our tracks tend to cater to newbies and professionals working with Drupal. Showcase sessions show off excellent sites built with Drupal, by explaining what they do and how the were built. There are plans to hold beginner and immediate level sessions while other tracks can focus on development.

Will my session be accepted? When will it be scheduled?

Thanks for submitting a session! Since this is a camp and not a conference, sessions will be scheduled based on the level of interest from the community, and how many other sessions are submitted. The final schedule won't be set until a week or so before the event (and is subject to change at any time). If your session doesn't make the schedule, there's plenty of space for BoFs.

What do Session Presenters need to know?

Bring your laptop ready to connect to an HDMI or VGA projector. Full information is available at the presenters page.

I'm coming from outside the US; can you help me get a VISA?

Sorry, no. This is a local event, run with help from the local community. We're happy if you are able to join us from far away, but we're not able to help with your travel documents.

Can I still become a sponsor of DrupalCamp LA?
