Drupal 8 is on the horizon, so it's time to start preparing ourselves. At Advomatic, we've started developing D8 projects for clients, but, still in Beta, Drupal 8 is not quite production ready.
This session will mostly be a high-level discussion about planning your project for the move to Drupal 8: what to think about, what to prepare for, how to get setup, gotchas to consider, etc. Do you need to plan how you'll upgrade or support your site when Drupal 6 is end-of-lifed in the transition to D8? Wondering if your D7 site is worth upgrading? Should you attempt to just upgrade your existing theme? What about completely new projects... is D8 ready for those?
While it may be discussed, we won't really be getting into code or development. If you're interested in that, make sure to attend:
- Mark Ferree's D8 Module Development session,
- Jesus Manuel Olivas' Drupal Console talk,
- Rain Breaw Michaels' highly regarded Views Demystified session that's been updated for D8,
- Doug Hoffman's D8 site building walkthrough.
